The Harlan family's red blend from the younger vines of Harlan Estate, BOND and Promontory. The Mascot does not receive visitors; here is what to know, and a day at sought-after estates nearby that do host.
Book a Six-Hour Wine Tour
The Mascot comes from Will Harlan and the family behind three Napa Valley estates: Harlan Estate, founded in 1984, BOND in 1996 and Promontory in 2008. It began as a family wine, unnamed and unlabeled, poured for close friends. After years of persuading, the first labeled vintage was released in 2008, and a few hand-labeled 2007 bottles are still out there.
The wine is a Bordeaux-style blend of fruit from the younger vines of all three estates, so each vintage gives a look at how those hillside vineyards are developing. The name and label honor two English bull terriers: Kid, from Richard Harding Davis's 1903 novella The Bar Sinister, a family heirloom, and Prince, an unofficial bank mascot on early 1900s Pittsburgh stock certificates.
The Mascot is sold through a private allocation list. Each year members are offered the latest vintage at pre-release pricing, along with invitations to events in Napa Valley and beyond. The brand lists only Oakville as its home and publishes no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. The day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do.
The Mascot does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since The Mascot does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Rancho Caymus Inn, at the Rutherford crossroads, is about 8 minutes from the first stop, and Auberge du Soleil, a hillside resort above Rutherford, about 15 minutes, so we collect Auberge guests a little earlier. The day runs about six and a half hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 8 minutes away. A family label of heritage-vineyard Napa Cabernet from former Araujo winemaker Nigel Kinsman, poured with artisan cheese at green-certified Wheeler Farms on Zinfandel Lane. The Tasting Experience of four wines is $150, about 90 minutes. By appointment; the team confirms the day and time when it accepts the request.
About 12 minutes away. Russell Bevan's single-vineyard Cabernets, poured in a guided tasting at Brasswood north of St. Helena. The Bordeaux Tasting of five Napa reds, with a library selection when available, is $125, about 75 minutes. By appointment Tuesday to Saturday, with tastings at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.
About 8 minutes away. Lunch at Farmstead, Long Meadow Ranch's farm-to-table restaurant at the south end of St. Helena, open daily for lunch. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 12 minutes away. A Spring Mountain estate on land from Caroline Bale's 1860 dowry, with a mountainside cave and long views over the valley. The Private Tour & Tasting is $200, 90 minutes. By appointment daily, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; children are not allowed on the estate.
Back by about 4:35 p.m., about six and a half hours after pickup.
About $475 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Bevan Cellars hosts Tuesday to Saturday, so plan this day for one of those days. The day runs about six and a half hours, back by about 4:35 p.m.
