T-Vine Winery was founded in 1992 by Napa native Greg Brown. The story begins with an old-vine Grenache he shared on a park bench in France, which set him on a path to champion California's overlooked heritage vineyards: gnarly, head-trained vines and small lots of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Grenache. The 'T' stands for Trinity, body, mind and spirit. Greg Brown died in 2011, and the winery carries on his approach.
Frediani fruit has long been a cornerstone. In Calistoga, Jim Frediani and his family care for a vineyard rich in old vines and heritage varieties, the source of T-Vine's Charbono, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Syrah and Zinfandel. The winery says it looks for distinctive varieties and places with character of their own, and its 2023 Napa Valley Mixed Blacks was rated 95 points by James Suckling.
Today T-Vine sells its wines online and through a wine club with five releases a year, which members can have shipped or pick up at a location in Napa. The winery says that pickup point is not a tasting room, and it lists no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. The day below takes you to three estates in and around the city of Napa that do.
T-Vine does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since T-Vine does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Both downtown hotels are about 10 minutes from the first stop in south Napa. The day runs about six and a half hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 10 minutes away. Calistoga estate Cabernet poured in the Blackbird Vineyards tasting room on Latour Court in south Napa, as a current release flight or with back vintages added. $80 to $110; we allow about an hour. By reservation on Tock.
About 20 minutes away. A family ranch in Wooden Valley, a quiet side valley in the hills east of Napa, where a host pours four estate wines with a meat and cheese platter and tells the story of the ranch. $75; we allow about 75 minutes. By appointment; weekend tastings available.
About 20 minutes away. Lunch at Bistro Don Giovanni, an Italian restaurant among the vineyards on Howard Lane, a valley favorite for more than 30 years, open daily from 11:30 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. A private tasting salon upstairs in a historic downtown Napa building, where Into the Cellar pours Beckstoffer and other pedigreed-vineyard Cabernets among the French oak barrels with artisanal food pairings. $150, up to 8 guests; we allow about 90 minutes. By reservation only.
Back by about 4:25 p.m., about six and a half hours after pickup.
About $305 to $335 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Altamura and Simon Family Estate set their times when we book, and Perliss books on Tock. Back by about 4:25 p.m.
