Stone Cottage Vineyards belongs to Craig Dziedzic and Mark Primeau, who bought the 26-acre property off Soda Canyon Road in the Atlas Peak AVA in March 2008 and founded Stone Cottage in 2011. They planted the first vines in 2013, and the first harvest, in 2015, gave 1.25 tons of fruit and 60 cases. The 2017 crop came in on October 7, through the worst wildfire season in California history.
The vineyard is a single block of about 2.25 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon on 110R rootstock, field grafted to clone 337, high on the Vaca Range in rocky volcanic soil. The owners describe a wine of deep garnet color with dark fruit, chocolate and earthy flavors. The 2021 vintage won Best in Class at the 48th Orange County Fair Commercial Wine Competition in 2024.
Production is tiny, about 40 cases of the 2023 Cabernet, which is available now; the 2024 is due in fall 2026. The wine is sold through the online shop on the winery's website and through Wine SF, and a wine club is coming. Stone Cottage lists no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors; the day below takes you to three estates nearby that do.
Stone Cottage does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Stone Cottage does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Both hotels are about 10 to 12 minutes from the first stop in the Oak Knoll District. The day runs about six and a half hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 12 minutes away. A family estate in the Oak Knoll District where every wine is grown, made and bottled on the property; the private tasting includes a cellar walk and a stroll in the vineyard. $85, about 90 minutes. Reservations required and prepaid; open daily 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May to October, Wednesday to Sunday November to April.
About 10 minutes away. Single-vineyard wines poured by the fire in a restored 19th-century French-style chateau at the base of Atlas Peak Road. The Classic Tasting is $65, 60 to 90 minutes. Thursday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., last seating at 3 p.m.; reservations recommended.
About 8 minutes away. Lunch at Kitchen Door in downtown Napa, a sit-down restaurant on First Street. Lunch runs from 11:30 a.m. on weekdays and from 12:30 p.m. on weekends. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. A small family winery that began in a Brooklyn apartment, now pouring single-vineyard wines in Napa's Crusher District, with a private barrel tasting hosted by the founders. $100, 60 to 90 minutes. By prior reservation; each month's bookings open on the 15th of the month before.
Back by about 4:30 p.m., about six and a half hours after pickup.
About $250 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Whetstone is open Thursday to Monday, O'Brien is closed Monday and Tuesday from November through April, and Crosby Roamann opens each month's bookings on the 15th of the month before, so plan this day for Thursday through Sunday. Back by about 4:30 p.m.
