Spoto Family Wines is run by three generations of the Spoto family. Winemaker Stuart Spoto, who studied engineering at UC Davis, learned winemaking alongside his father Henry, and in 2004 he and his wife Christy built and licensed the first bonded winery in Sacramento County. His grandfather, Enrico Rodolfo Spoto Sr., came to the United States from Catania, Sicily, in 1913.
The grapes come from Oakville. The winery says its fruit comes from the Oakville Station, part of one of the most historic vineyards in Oakville. Stuart makes mainly Bordeaux-style blends, such as the 2023 Oakville Cuvée (Christiane), plus small lots of Chardonnay, Viognier and Pinot Noir, in all fewer than 500 cases a year. Spoto joined the Oakville Winegrowers in 2010 and the Napa Valley Vintners a year later.
The wines are sold through the Wine Lovers Club, which ships two six-bottle allocations a year, and at restaurants and wine shops mainly in California. There is no tasting room in Napa Valley; the family's private tours and tastings take place at its winery in Sacramento County. The day below takes you to three Oakville estates near the vineyard that do host.
Spoto Family Wines does not offer tastings in Napa Valley. A private tour and tasting at its Sacramento County winery is $75.
The day below runs about $325 per person in tasting fees at Turnbull, PlumpJack and To Kalon Vineyard Company, plus To Kalon's 18% hospitality fee.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Spoto Family Wines does not host visitors in Napa Valley, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. North Block Hotel and Hotel Villagio are both in Yountville, about 15 minutes from the first stop in Oakville. The day runs about six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 15 minutes away. An all-estate Oakville winery with a rotating photography gallery. The Gallery Tasting of four current releases at your own pace is $65; we plan about an hour.
About 5 minutes away. An Oakville Cabernet estate around an 1880s winery on the Oakville Cross Road. The PlumpJack Experience is $80, 60 minutes, by reservation.
About 10 minutes away. Lunch at Mustards Grill, a Napa Valley roadhouse on Highway 29 since 1983. We confirm hours when we book. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 10 minutes away. Private, guided tastings of Cabernet from the To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville, poured at the estate where the vineyard grows. The To Kalon Vineyard Company Experience is $180 plus an 18% hospitality fee; we plan about 90 minutes.
Back by about 3:50 p.m., about six hours after pickup.
About $325 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, plus To Kalon's 18% hospitality fee, paid directly to each winery.
All three wineries are open daily; PlumpJack takes its last tasting reservations at 3 p.m., so it comes before lunch. For a lighter day, swap To Kalon for a second Oakville stop such as Groth ($50).
