Calistoga · Napa Valley
A family winery, home of the Sempre Vive wines, that pours on a garden courtyard patio in a restored carriage house in downtown Calistoga, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

Frank and Eugenia Romeo bought about 45 acres in northern Napa Valley, south of Calistoga, in 1996 as a weekend retreat, and their first vintage followed in 1997. The Blue Heron vineyard sits on a knoll rising from the valley floor, with a block of Cabernet Sauvignon dating to 1971. Romeo is also the home of the Sempre Vive wines, a name the family chose for the way wine keeps changing in the bottle.
The tasting room opened in 2014 in a restored 1885 carriage house on Lincoln Avenue in the Calistoga AVA, and the winery keeps a library of its own wines going back to early vintages. Tastings are hosted outside on the garden patio in the courtyard, a quiet spot just off the main street. Leashed, friendly dogs are welcome, which guests traveling with a dog appreciate.
This is one of the easier visits in Calistoga: open daily from noon to 7 p.m., with the last tasting at 5. Your host guides you through a selection of Romeo wines on the patio for $30, waived with a two-bottle purchase. Walk-ins are taken for groups under six when space allows, but space is limited, so we reserve ahead and can pre-order a cheese board.
$30 per person for the Wine Tasting on the garden patio, complimentary for wine club members and waived with a purchase of two or more bottles. A cheese board is $30 (serves 2 to 4), by pre-order.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
