About the Winery

Bob Craig began his wine career at The Hess Collection on Mount Veeder in the 1980s and helped lead the effort to recognize the Mount Veeder and Spring Mountain District AVAs. In 1990, with three friends from business school, he founded Robert Craig Winery to make mountain Cabernet. Bob retired in 2012, and the winery continues under his founding partners.

In 1995 Bob and his partners bought 22 acres at the summit of Howell Mountain. The estate vineyard, planted in 1998, sits at 2,300 feet on red volcanic and tufa soils. The winery also makes Cabernet from Mount Veeder, Spring Mountain and Diamond Mountain, along with its Affinity vineyard in the eastern foothills.

The Summit Experience brings guests to the estate itself, with a guided tour and tasting of limited-production wines among the vineyards and winery, led by the estate ambassador or a member of the Craig Crew. Reservations are limited and by appointment. For a simpler visit, the winery's tasting salon in downtown Napa is open daily.

Tasting Fees

$45 for the Salon Select Experience and $85 for the Urban Howell Mountain Intensive at the downtown Napa salon. $135 for the Summit Experience at the Howell Mountain estate, a guided tour and tasting, refunded with a case purchase.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
