A tiny family label from winemaker Ryan Pass, making Coombsville Merlot and cool-climate Chardonnay with as little intervention as possible. Pass Wines does not receive visitors; here is what to know, and a day at sought-after estates nearby that do host.

Pass Wines is the small family label of winemaker Ryan Pass, whose motto is "wines of thoughtful intervention": the yeast, he says, do the heavy lifting. Ryan joined Farella Vineyard in Coombsville for the 2015 harvest and was promoted from assistant winemaker to winemaker in 2018, as Wine Business reported. In 2019 SevenFifty Daily featured him among a group of UC Davis enology graduates making minimalist micro-label wines.
Rather than start with a style, Ryan found the vineyards first. The Merlots come from three Coombsville sites (Farella, planted in 1993 on diatomite; the organically farmed Black Vineyard, planted in 1987; and Gulash) and from Coplan in Sonoma Valley. The Chardonnays come from Wood Valley in Sonoma Valley and a four-row Mount Veeder block at the site of the historic Castle Rock ghost winery, which yields one barrel a vintage.
Production is tiny: the 2022 Wood Valley Chardonnay is 56 cases. Wine is sold online and through Season Pass, a club that ships six bottles each spring and fall, with invitations to pick-up parties. Pass Wines publishes no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. The day below visits Coombsville and south Napa wineries that do.
Pass Wines does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Pass Wines does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do, starting in Coombsville. Andaz Napa and Archer Hotel Napa are both in downtown Napa, about 12 minutes from the first stop. The day fits about six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 12 minutes away. A small estate on a knoll in Coombsville, named for its ancient alluvial soils, visited by private request. Any fee is confirmed when the estate accepts; we allow about an hour.
About 8 minutes away. A small Coombsville winery where Bill, the self-styled Chief Entertainment Officer, leads a comic and historical tasting of four to five current releases. Tastings are $35; we allow about an hour. By appointment only.
About 10 minutes away. Lunch at Kitchen Door in downtown Napa, a sit-down restaurant on First Street. Lunch runs from 11:30 a.m. on weekdays and from 12:30 p.m. on weekends. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 12 minutes away. A boutique winery in south Napa where winemaker Bobby Moy reserves a private tasting area for your group. The private tasting of current releases is $50; we allow about an hour. By request, daily 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Back by about 3:30 p.m., under six hours after pickup.
About $85 per person in published tasting fees (Tulocay and Chiron), paid directly to each winery; Alluvium confirms any fee when we book.
Alluvium and Tulocay confirm their times when they accept the request. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.
