Bill Cadman left work as a stock exchange specialist in San Francisco for Napa, and learned the trade at Charles Krug, with Joe Heitz, at Clos du Val and at Robert Mondavi. In 1975 he crushed nine tons in two converted outbuildings on his property, and Tulocay was born. His daughter Brie, who grew up on the bottling line, is now the winemaker.
Tulocay calls itself the oldest continuously operating winery in the Coombsville AVA. Its first wine was a 1975 Pinot Noir from the Haynes Vineyard down the road, planted in 1966 on the advice of André Tchelistcheff, and that vineyard's grapes have come up Tulocay's steep driveway every harvest since. The focus is single-vineyard, single-variety wines.
Visits are seated and personal: you sit down with Bill for four or five current releases and a funny, unvarnished history of the winery and of Napa before it got fancy. It is a small, old-school family place a short drive from downtown Napa, with none of the crowds. Brie and Bill run the whole operation themselves.
$35 per person for a seated tasting of four to five current releases.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
