About the Winery

Chiron was founded in 2015 by winemaker Bobby Moy and Mark McCoy. Bobby grew up in wine country and started out as a sommelier, worked harvests on the Central Coast, studied winemaking at Oregon State University and then spent three years in Napa Valley with well-known winemakers, working with Grenache and Cabernet. He lives in Calistoga.

The name comes from Greek mythology, where Chiron was the teacher of culture and science, and the winery's motto is "raw in nature and refined with culture." Chiron works with farmers who care for living soils, keeps intervention in the cellar light and calls the work winegrowing rather than winemaking. It is a small Napa Valley label, and the wine club and mailing list get the releases first.

The winery is in a business park in south Napa, and there is no bar to walk up to. You request a private tasting of the current releases, the team confirms a time, and a tasting area is set aside for your group. It is a relaxed, personal visit and an easy first stop before heading into Carneros.

Tasting Fees

$50 per person for a private tasting of current releases, waived with a new wine club membership or a six-bottle purchase. The winery does not publish a duration; we allow about an hour.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:40 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Archer Hotel Napa or Andaz Napa. Chiron's tasting hours start at 11 a.m., so we time the pickup for the first slot.

10:40 · Pickup at Archer Hotel Napa or Andaz Napa

Both hotels are in downtown Napa, about 12 minutes from Chiron's winery in south Napa. We pick up at 10:40 so you arrive for the 11 a.m. opening. The day below runs a little over six hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

11:00 · Chiron Wines

A private tasting of current releases in a tasting area reserved for your group ($50). We allow about an hour; the winery confirms the time when it accepts the request.

12:15 · Hyde Vineyards Estate

About 15 minutes away. Larry Hyde's Carneros vineyard, planted in 1979 and long a source for other wineries, where you can taste on a small terrace looking over the vines. The estate tasting is $75 for about 75 minutes. By reservation; open daily 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., up to six guests.

1:45 · Lunch at Bistro Don Giovanni

About 15 minutes away. Lunch at Bistro Don Giovanni, an Italian restaurant among the vineyards on Howard Lane, a valley favorite for more than 30 years, open daily from 11:30 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

3:00 · Mount George Winery

About 15 minutes away. A small family winery at the base of Mt. George, built by hand by its owners, who host every visit themselves on the terrace, in the winery and in the caves. The hosted experience is $80; visits run up to two hours, and we plan 90 minutes. By appointment only.

4:30 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 4:45 p.m., a little over six hours after pickup.

About $205 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

We leave off an optional fourth stop: Hyde runs about 75 minutes and Mount George up to two hours, and three wineries is the right pace. Chiron's tastings are by request, so we confirm the time first and build the day around it.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
