A family winery on Zinfandel Lane where breads come out of a wood-fired oven at your table and a projected show tells the story of wine, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.

Oakham Estate is the work of Susanna Kelham, whom the winery describes as a self-made entrepreneur who built several businesses from the ground up, and her son Hamilton Nicholsen, the vintner, who has more than 25 years of winemaking behind him. The winery calls itself the culmination of more than two decades of experience, and Susanna oversees every part of it.
All of the grapes come from the family's own Oakville vineyards, which are certified organic by CCOF, with more than 30 years of farming experience behind them. The list centers on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery itself is on Zinfandel Lane south of St. Helena, in the St. Helena AVA.
What sets the visit apart is the food and the show. For the bread and charcuterie pairing, rustic breads are toasted tableside in a mobile wood-fired pizza oven. Ham & Al's Adventure, Wine Through Time, is a 60-minute projected presentation with 2D and 3D animation in a dedicated projection room, with three wines and small bites. Both are booked well ahead.
$100 for the Wood-Fired Rustic Bread and Charcuterie Pairing, three wines with breads toasted tableside and an individual charcuterie platter. $150 for Ham & Al's Adventure, Wine Through Time, a 60-minute projected presentation with three wines and small bites.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
