Gallica

About the Winery

Gallica is the label of winemaker and proprietor Rosemary Cakebread, who began making her own wine in 2007 after decades at storied houses in Napa and Bordeaux. A UC Davis graduate, she was introduced to Cabernet Sauvignon at Inglenook, worked with sparkling wine at Mumm Napa and held a winemaking position at Spottswoode. The name comes from rosa gallica, the ancient apothecary rose, a nod to the role of aromatics in wine.

The home estate is the family property in the St. Helena AVA, set against the Mayacamas near Sulphur Creek. Cabernet Sauvignon was planted here in 1990 beside Petite Sirah dating to 1953, and the vineyard is certified organic by CCOF. Gallica is best known for single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from Oakville Ranch Vineyard in the eastern hills, made since 2009, along with Grenache, Albariño and small estate bottlings.

Visits are private and small, for up to eight guests, at an estate whose home is a contemporary barn among the vines. The Estate Tasting pours five current releases over about 75 minutes, with a short stroll in the vineyard when weather allows. The Library Tasting opens older vintages from the cellar for a conversation about growing seasons and how the wines have evolved. A wine purchase of greater value offsets the tasting fee.

Tasting Fees

$90 for the Estate Tasting of five current releases, about 75 minutes. $150 for the Library Tasting of older vintages from the cellar. A wine purchase of greater value offsets the fee.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
