Jim "Bear" Dyke Jr. founded Mira in 2009 with winemaker Gustavo "Goose" Gonzalez. The name comes from a Latin root meaning miracle, which the winery ties to the small miracles of handcrafting a bottle of wine each vintage. Gonzalez made the wines through 2022, and Thomas Rivers Brown took over as winemaker in 2023.
Mira is best known for an experiment that began in February 2013, when it lowered 48 bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon in cages into Charleston Harbor in South Carolina to compare ocean-aged wine with bottles kept in the cellar. Its wines come from vineyards such as Hyde Vineyard in Carneros and Schweizer Vineyard in the Stags Leap District, and include Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
Mira's tasting room at 6170 Washington Street in Yountville closed on July 31, 2023, after the property was sold. The winery now sells online and through its Society 610 membership, offers a Private Pour (a guided Mira tasting at your home or chosen venue for up to 20 guests) and hosts small multi-day wine weekends in Charleston. The day below goes to three estates nearby that do host, one of them tied to Hyde Vineyard.
Mira does not offer tastings in Napa Valley.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
