HdV is a venture between the Hyde family of Napa Valley and the de Villaine family of Burgundy, related by marriage. Rick Hyde co-founded it in 2000 with his uncles, Larry Hyde of Hyde Vineyards and Aubert de Villaine, proprietor of Domaine de Villaine and co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti.
The wines come from Hyde Vineyards in cool Carneros, on shallow loamy soils and old streambeds cooled by winds through the Petaluma Gap, and since 2018 from other cool sites in Napa Valley. The winery itself was built in 2003 beside the Napa River, just north of downtown Napa, for minimal-intervention winemaking.
In the Burgundian spirit, tastings are private, by appointment and focused on learning, with current releases poured over about 90 minutes inside the working winery. It suits guests who like to talk about vineyards and winemaking, and it is only a few minutes from downtown Napa hotels.
$75 for the private, education-focused tasting of current releases, about 90 minutes.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
