About the Winery

Greg and Carol Lindstrom were looking for a small vineyard to explore their love of wine and farming when they found a rocky, ridgetop property of about 20 acres in the Stags Leap District. Their four-acre Nicali Vineyard, named for their daughters Nicole and Ali, sits on a knoll above Odette on the Silverado Trail.

The vineyard is farmed by hand in 11 separate blocks, with vineyard manager Michael Wolf, and the wine is made by Celia Welch, a former Food & Wine winemaker of the year. Lindstrom makes one estate Cabernet Sauvignon each year, blended in small lots, and the family says it produces 250 to 600 cases. Critics have rated the wines highly since the 2005 vintage, and the 2016 drew scores of 95 to 96 points.

Lindstrom sells its wine through its mailing list. The Stags Leap District Winegrowers list the estate as not currently open to the public, so it does not receive visitors. The day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Silverado Resort or Napa Valley Lodge.

10:00 · Pickup at Silverado Resort or Napa Valley Lodge

Since Lindstrom does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Napa Valley Lodge in Yountville is about 6 minutes from the first stop, and Silverado Resort, at the foot of Atlas Peak, about 15 minutes, so we collect Silverado guests a little earlier. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:15 · Elyse Winery

About 6 to 15 minutes away. A small Hoffman Lane winery making vineyard-designate Zinfandel and Cabernet since 1985, poured in a casual, intimate room south of Yountville. Tastings are $75 and up; we plan about an hour. By appointment.

11:35 · Staglin Family Vineyard

About 15 minutes away. A family estate on the Rutherford Bench since 1985, certified organic and solar powered, with its winery built underground in caves. The private visit walks the vineyard and caves before a tasting of the estate wines, $150, about 90 minutes. By appointment Tuesday to Saturday, with first access for members, so we request your date early; the estate confirms the start time.

1:15 · Lunch at Farmstead at Long Meadow Ranch

About 10 minutes away. Lunch at Farmstead, Long Meadow Ranch's farm-to-table restaurant at the south end of St. Helena, open daily for lunch. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

2:40 · Foley Johnson

About 10 minutes away. Bill Foley and Carol Johnson Foley's Rutherford estate, with tastings in a converted 1920s redwood barn among the vines and a terrace facing the Vaca Mountains. The Luxury Cabernet Tasting in the VIP room is $100, with the Peral Vineyard Cabernet and a cheese and charcuterie board; we allow about an hour. Open daily; last tasting at 4 p.m.

3:45 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 4:00 p.m., six hours after pickup.

From about $325 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

Staglin hosts Tuesday to Saturday, so this day works on those days.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
