Napa · Napa Valley

Philippe Venghiattis and his wife, winemaker Diane Wu, began Lanthanide with the 2018 vintage. Philippe spent more than ten years as a fine wine auctioneer in New York before studying horticulture and agronomy at UC Davis, then worked at Mumm Napa and Stagecoach Vineyards, among others. The name comes from the rare earth metals: not truly rare, the winery says, just hard to find and isolate, like great terroir.
The aim is a contemporary take on the balanced, long-lived North Coast wines of the 1970s. Sonnenfrost is a dry Riesling from Hibbard Ranch at the quiet far end of Carneros; ad coelum is Cabernet from Stagecoach Vineyard high on Atlas Peak; Nedori covers golden Rhône whites such as Marsanne and Viognier; and Scarpatta, an Aglianico, arrived in fall 2024.
Lanthanide sells its small production through its online shop and a few local shops and restaurants. It publishes no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. The day below follows its Riesling to Carneros, with a Mount Veeder estate poured at Cuvaison, a Mexican-American family winery that pours Pinot Noir verticals and a relaxed tasting room beside The Meritage Resort.
Lanthanide does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Lanthanide does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Carneros Resort and Spa, a cottage resort among the Carneros vineyards, is about 5 minutes from the first stop, and Stanly Ranch, an Auberge resort on a historic Carneros ranch, about 10 minutes. The day runs about five and a half hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 5 minutes away. A Mount Veeder estate whose ridgetop vineyard was first planted in 1926, poured at sister winery Cuvaison in Carneros as a seated tasting of five estate wines with pairings by chef Aaron LeRoi. By reservation daily for 2 to 8 guests; tasting fees to be verified upon reservation. We allow about 75 minutes.
About 15 minutes away. A Mexican-American family winery founded by a vineyard manager from Michoacán, with small, personal tastings and barrel sessions in its Napa tasting room. The Tasting Room Flight is $55 (we allow about an hour), and the Pinot Noir Vertical Experience is $60 for 90 minutes. By reservation, booked online; weekends fill first.
About 15 minutes away. Lunch at Boon Fly Café in Carneros, which serves its daytime menu every day until 4 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 12 minutes away. A family winery with a relaxed tasting room beside The Meritage Resort at the southern gateway to the valley, where food pairings can be added to any flight. The seated tasting of signature varietals is $55; we plan about an hour. Open daily; reservations recommended.
Back by about 3:30 p.m., about five and a half hours after pickup.
About $110 per person in tasting fees at Encanto and Trinitas, paid directly to each winery; Brandlin's fee is confirmed when we book.
Brandlin and Encanto confirm times when we book, and Encanto's weekends fill first. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.
Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
