Encanto was founded by Enrique López, the youngest of 14 children from the village of El Espíritu in Michoacán, Mexico. He learned farming from his family, earned a degree in chemical engineering and worked in the cellars of Stag's Leap. In 2000 he started his own vineyard management company, farming the same Napa Valley fields his family had tended since the late 1960s.
Encanto's first vintage was 2008. The wines are single-variety and single-vineyard: Cabernet Sauvignon, Carneros Pinot Noir, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. López is a founding member of the Mexican American Vintners Association, and the winery calls its wines a tribute to family and to the farmworkers who are the backbone of Napa Valley. The name means enchantment.
The tasting room is in Napa's south-end winery district, a small, unhurried space built for small groups. Choices run from an introductory flight to a Pinot Noir vertical, a Cabernet flight, a winery tour and a barrel tasting with the winemaker. Guests often meet Enrique himself. Spots fill quickly on weekends, so we book ahead for you.
$55 for the Encanto Tasting Room Flight (length varies). $60 for the Pinot Noir Vertical Experience or a Private / Celebration Experience, $75 for the Collector's Cabernet Flight or the Signature Winery Tour & Tasting, and $100 for the Winemaker Barrel Experience, each 90 minutes.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
