About the Winery

Robin Daniel Lail is a fourth-generation Napa vintner. Her great-granduncle, Captain Gustav Niebaum, founded Inglenook in 1879, and her father, John Daniel Jr., ran it from 1936 until he sold it in 1964. Robin went on to co-found Dominus and Merryvale, and in 1995 she started Lail Vineyards with her husband Jon and their daughters Erin and Shannon, who are partners today.

Philippe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky make the wines. Lail farms two small vineyards: Mole Hill, 3 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon at 1,700 feet on Howell Mountain, and Totem, 2.5 acres in Yountville that the winery describes as part of the original Inglenook Vineyards property, which grows the Georgia Sauvignon Blanc. The Cabernets include J. Daniel Cuvée, Blueprint, Welly, The Henry and Mole Hill.

Lail has no tasting room of its own. Wine is sold through the mailing list and the Flights of Fancy membership, and the winery asks people who want to taste to contact its Director of Consumer Relations "to discover where you can experience Lail wines." We can make that inquiry for you. The day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that host guests.

Tasting Fees

Lail does not offer tastings of its own.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as North Block Hotel or Bardessono.

10:00 · Pickup at North Block Hotel or Bardessono

Since Lail does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. North Block Hotel, a small courtyard hotel on Washington Street, and Bardessono, a LEED Platinum hotel and spa, are both in Yountville, about 10 minutes from the first stop. The day runs about six and a half hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

10:15 · Gamble Estates

About 10 minutes away. A third-generation Napa farming family's Oakville estate, marked only by a red mailbox on Highway 29, with tastings in a vineyard-facing salon or on the terrace. The Estate Tasting is $150 for 90 minutes, with a vineyard walk when the weather allows. By appointment only; fees apply toward wine purchases.

12:00 · Keever Vineyards

About 12 minutes away. A small family estate in the western hills south of Yountville, with a two-story tasting room, a wine cave and views across the valley to Stag's Leap and Atlas Peak. The private tasting and tour is $100 for about 90 minutes. By phone appointment at least a day ahead; tastings daily 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

1:40 · Lunch at Brix

About 8 minutes away. Lunch at Brix on Highway 29 near Yountville, a sit-down restaurant beside its own gardens, serving lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day but Tuesday. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

3:00 · Odette Estate Winery

About 12 minutes away. An organic Stags Leap District estate under the Palisades, with a LEED Gold winery designed to recall a flowing evening gown. The Odette Experience is $100, with a cheese plate for every two guests; we plan about 75 minutes. Open daily 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. by reservation.

4:15 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 4:30 p.m., about six and a half hours after pickup.

About $350 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

Brix is closed on Tuesdays; on a Tuesday we move lunch to another sit-down restaurant in Yountville. The day runs about six and a half hours, back by about 4:30 p.m.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
