Oakville · Napa Valley
A third-generation farming family's Oakville estate behind a red mailbox, where Tom Gamble himself may pour, and a suggested six-hour day of tasting around it.
Book a Six-Hour Wine Tour
The Gamble family has farmed in Napa Valley since 1916, first cattle and then grapes. Tom Gamble bought his first vineyard in 1981 while at UC Davis and bottled the first wine under the family name in 2005. His mother, Mary Ann McGuire, helped establish the 1968 Napa Valley Agricultural Preserve, and Tom still farms about 175 acres.
The home estate is in Oakville, marked only by a red mailbox on Highway 29. The wines are made with Atelier Melka (Philippe Melka was one of Tom's earliest grape buyers) and estate winemaker Jaime Medina, from Gamble vineyards in Oakville, Rutherford, Mount Veeder and Yountville.
Visits are intimate and unhurried, and guests may find Tom himself pouring and telling stories about the land. The Signature tasting starts with Yountville Sauvignon Blanc in the salon or on the terrace, and the Estate tasting adds a stroll among the vines. Guests tell us it feels like visiting a farm family rather than a tasting room.
$75 for the Signature tasting, 45 to 60 minutes. $75 for the seasonal Sauvignon Blanc Experience with a cellar tour, 60 to 75 minutes. $150 for the Estate tasting with a vineyard stroll, 90 minutes. $300 for the Reserve, a private picnic among the vines, 2 to 3 hours.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
