Jack Quinn comes from Agave Rose Vineyard, a 1.09-acre block on the north end of the Rutherford Bench, along Zinfandel Lane. Vineyardist Jim Barbour planted it to Cabernet Sauvignon in the fall of 1999, on land once called Melrose Farm and first developed by Jacob Greer, a Norwegian ship captain and early Napa grape grower who died in a shipwreck off Alcatraz in the 1890s.
The young vineyard's first crops, from 2001 to 2003, went to Heidi Barrett and Philippe Melka. In 2004 Andy Erickson and Benoit Touquette made the first Jack Quinn, 125 cases aged in new French oak, and in 2007 it was the recommended Cabernet at The French Laundry. Touquette has made the wine since 2005, and the lineup now includes a Leni Rosé alongside the Rutherford Cabernet.
Production is tiny, so the wine is sold only by allocation through the mailing list; the winery asks buyers to join the list for future offerings. Jack Quinn has no tasting room and publishes no visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. The day below visits three Oakville, Rutherford and St. Helena estates a few minutes from Zinfandel Lane that do.
Jack Quinn does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Rancho Caymus Inn or Auberge du Soleil.
Since Jack Quinn does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do, all a few minutes from Zinfandel Lane. Rancho Caymus Inn in Rutherford is about 8 minutes from the first stop, and Auberge du Soleil on Rutherford Hill about 15. The day runs about six and a half hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 8 minutes away. A family's ten-acre Oakville Cabernet vineyard beside its own restaurant, Brix, where four library vintages of the estate Cabernet are poured in the gardens and vines. The Cabernet Vertical is $95, 60 to 90 minutes. By appointment only; closed Monday and Tuesday.
About 12 minutes away. A small family estate on the Silverado Trail in Rutherford pouring small-lot Rutherford Cabernet and Cabernet Franc. The William Perry Experience is $85, about 90 minutes. By reservation, daily 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
About 8 minutes away. Lunch at Rutherford Grill at the Rutherford crossroads, a sit-down grill open daily. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 12 minutes away. A small allocation house making Beckstoffer To Kalon and Georges III Cabernet, poured in the cave lounge at Hunnicutt on the Silverado Trail. The hosted tasting with light bites is $150; we allow about 75 minutes. By prior arrangement only; availability is intentionally limited.
Back by about 4:15 p.m., about six and a quarter hours after pickup.
About $330 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Kelleher is closed Monday and Tuesday, and Boich is by prior arrangement with limited availability, so we plan this day for Wednesday to Sunday and confirm Boich first. The day runs a little past six hours; extra time is billed by the hour. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.
