About the Winery

George W. Hendry, an agronomy professor, and his wife Margaret bought the ranch on Redwood Road in 1939. It first grew plums, walnuts and grapes. Their son George O. Hendry, who designed cyclotrons used in medical imaging, turned the ranch toward wine grapes in the early 1970s, and the first Hendry vintage followed in 1992.

The ranch sits at the foot of Mount Veeder at the western edge of the Oak Knoll District, with a strong marine influence. About 114 acres of vines grow a dozen varieties, from Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel to Primitivo, and Hendry planted Albariño in 1997, early for Napa Valley. Every wine is made from estate grapes.

The family keeps the visit simple: good wine at a fair price, as the winery puts it, poured by appointment for small groups at the ranch winery, built in 2000. The San Francisco Chronicle has named Hendry to its Top Wineries list each year since 2021, and tasting fees are waived with an equivalent wine purchase.

Tasting Fees

$50 for the Red Wine Flight, about 60 minutes. $75 for the Classic Tasting of whites and reds and $100 for the Winemaker's Reserve Flight, each 60 to 90 minutes. Fees are waived with an equivalent wine purchase.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
