Andrea Bartolucci left Italy in 1912, and in 1922 he bought a 24-acre vineyard and winery in Oakville that he named Madonna Winery. The family sold those first vineyards in 1970, and that same year his grandson Andrea "Buck" Bartolucci bought 160 acres in Carneros. The family calls itself the second-oldest winemaking family in Napa Valley.
The Carneros vineyard is certified organic and dry farmed: once young vines are established, the irrigation lines come out and the vines live on rainwater. It sits at the southern end of the Los Carneros AVA, in line with San Pablo Bay, and the family makes ten estate-bottled single-varietal wines, from Pinot Grigio and Dolcetto to Pinot Noir and Muscat Canelli.
This is one of the few relaxed, come-as-you-are stops left in the valley. The winery takes walk-ins every day, pours inside or out, welcomes children and dogs, and has a picnic area. Buck still runs the vineyard and winery with his daughters Brette and Taylor, so the people pouring are often family. We start the day here, then head to two estates with seated tastings.
$30 for the tasting of five of the ten estate wines from a set menu, indoors or outside. The winery does not publish a duration; we allow about an hour.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
