Craig and Libby Heimark, who met at Brown University and lived in Chicago, Zurich, London and New York before settling in Palo Alto, bought this site in Dutch Henry Canyon in 1997. The family name comes from an old farm in Hordaland, Norway. The Heimarks put part of the proceeds into education for Napa Valley farmworkers and into school programs abroad.
The vineyard sits on a southwest-facing slope on an ancient landslide, framed by forest, east of the Silverado Trail in the Calistoga AVA. Michael Wolf has managed it since the first planting in 1997: 14 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and one of Petit Verdot in rocky volcanic soil. Grapes from the site have earned several 100-point scores, and winemaker Françoise Peschon, who led Araujo Estate for 14 years, makes the Heimark wine.
Heimark is sold through an allocation list, with priority for loyal members; the sign-up is on the winery's website. The estate is on a private road and is plain about visits: "We are unable to accommodate visitors." The day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do welcome guests.
Heimark does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Since Heimark does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do. Four Seasons Napa Valley, on the Silverado Trail in Calistoga, is about 12 minutes from Diamond Creek, and Indian Springs, the historic hot springs resort on Lincoln Avenue, about 8 minutes. The day runs about six and a quarter hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 12 minutes away. Al and Boots Brounstein's Diamond Mountain estate, where four vineyards on three different soils are bottled separately and never blended. The Signature Tasting of the single-vineyard Cabernets, followed by a guided UTV tour of the estate, is $250, about 90 minutes. By private appointment requested ahead, morning or afternoon, with priority for mailing list members.
About 20 minutes away. A family estate on the Silverado Trail where you taste in a tasting barn; the flagship is the DATE NIGHT Cabernet Sauvignon. The Winery and Tasting Barn tasting is $95 (allow about an hour), waived with three bottles of the Cabernet. By appointment, morning or afternoon; space is very limited.
About 10 minutes away. Lunch at Sam's Social Club at Indian Springs in Calistoga, a sit-down restaurant named for town founder Samuel Brannan, serving lunch Monday through Friday and brunch on weekends. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 8 minutes away. The Jackson family's group of top estates, poured on Bennett Lane in Calistoga, where one table can move from Napa mountain Cabernet (Lokoya, La Jota, Mt. Brave) to wines from Bordeaux, Tuscany and beyond. The Seated Tasting of five wines is $75 (allow about 75 minutes). By appointment, prepaid, with times from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Back by about 4:15 p.m., about six and a quarter hours after pickup.
About $420 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Diamond Creek gives priority to its mailing list, so we request the visit well ahead. The day runs about six and a quarter hours, back around 4:15 p.m.
