About the Winery
Suzanne Phifer Pavitt grew up on a family farm in Ringgold, Georgia, and Shane Pavitt in Manhattan Beach, California. After they married in 1998 they began a weekly Date Night, over a bottle of wine or bourbon, where every big decision was made. One of those decisions was a 23-acre plot in Calistoga, where they planted the vineyard by hand and started a family.
The estate sits on the Silverado Trail in the Calistoga AVA, and the wines carry that story: the flagship is the DATE NIGHT Cabernet Sauvignon. The family farms with a Napa Green certification and calls its style approachable luxury; they also make a Kentucky bourbon.
Tastings happen in the Winery and Tasting Barn, a small, personal space where hosts talk about the vineyard, the winemaking and the people behind it. Space is very limited, so it pays to book ahead, and the fee is waived with three bottles of Cabernet. Guests like how much it feels like being welcomed onto a family farm.

About 10 minutes away. A small estate on Highway 128 just north of Calistoga, where Cabernet vines surround a manor house that is also a small inn. Private tastings are $75, waived with a three-bottle purchase per person. By advance appointment only.

About 10 minutes away. Lunch at Solbar, the restaurant at Solage on the Silverado Trail, serving lunch Monday to Saturday from 11:45 a.m. (brunch on Sunday). Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
2:30 · Tom Eddy Winery
About 12 minutes away. A family ranch about 1,000 feet up outside Calistoga, where owner and sommelier Kerry Eddy leads a tour of the property, winery and cave before a private tasting with a cheese and charcuterie board. $100, 1.5 to 2 hours. Monday to Saturday at 10:30 a.m. or 2:30 p.m. only; well-behaved children welcome, no dogs.
