About the Winery

Fortunate Son is the newer project of Jayson Woodbridge, the vintner who created Hundred Acre. He announced it in February 2023, bringing back an earlier Fortunate Son label in a new form, with the 2018 vintage as the first release. Those first wines were made in The RING, Hundred Acre's underground winery, and the label now has its own home at the Historic David Fulton Vineyard in St. Helena, established in 1860 and restored by Jayson, his wife Helen and their son Cameron.

Rather than one estate, Woodbridge and farming partner Jim Barbour chose heritage family-owned vineyards around Napa Valley, some farmed by the same family for three or four generations, and gave them Hundred Acre's intensive farming. The first three wines were The Dreamer, The Diplomat and The Warrior, and the range has since grown. The winery's site quotes critics including James Suckling, Lisa Perrotti-Brown and Jeb Dunnuck.

The wines are sold through fortunatesonwines.com and by fine wine merchants. The winery is plain about visits: "We do not offer public tasting at this time." So the day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do welcome guests, from a Conn Valley cave to the top of Spring Mountain.
