About the Winery

Giuseppe Sciligo bought this land in 1884 and had 28 acres of vineyard by 1886, before phylloxera destroyed it. In 1979 Michael and Helen O'Hara bought part of the property and by 1988 had planted seven acres of Chardonnay, naming it Firetree after the twisting oak on the hilltop that was struck by lightning and briefly caught fire. They sold that same year to Silverado Vineyards.

For more than three decades the vineyard was a key source for Silverado's Napa Valley Chardonnay. The Jimenez family bought it in 2021, hired winemaker Julien Fayard and kept Walsh Vineyard Management, and earned Napa Green and Fish Friendly Farming certification. In the hills of Los Carneros above San Pablo Bay, they make FIDEM Estate Reserve and Bunny Hills Estate Chardonnay, with new plantings of Pinot Noir and Syrah.

The wines are sold through the winery's online shop and mailing list. Firetree publishes no tasting program and does not receive visitors at the vineyard, where some 200 goats and sheep graze among the vines. The day below takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do host.
