About the Winery

Fine Disregard Wine Co. was established in 2015 by winemaker Mike Schieffer and viticulturist Kara Maraden. Their aim, in their words, is wines that reflect California and its rich viticultural history, from compelling vineyards, often old vines in interesting soils and preferably farmed organically. Mike is assistant winemaker at Turley Wine Cellars in St. Helena, and Kara is director of viticulture for Foley Family Farms.

The approach is minimal intervention at every step, with organic farming and spontaneous fermentation. Recent releases span the state: Chenin Blanc from Chalone Vineyard, Carignane from Lodi and Contra Costa County, Mataro from Oakley Road, Semillon from Bedrock Vineyard and Grenache from Sonoma County. In Napa Valley the label has bottled a Lost Row Syrah from the Stags Leap District and, earlier, a Napa Valley Semillon.

New wines go to a members list, most recently in April 2026, at about $30 to $42 a bottle. Fine Disregard publishes no tasting room or visiting program, so it does not receive visitors. The day below stays around Napa and Yountville, at three family wineries that do host.

Andaz Napa, a boutique Hyatt hotel, and Archer Hotel Napa, with its rooftop bar, are both in downtown Napa, about 10 minutes from the first stop. The day runs about five and three-quarter hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.

11:00 · J. Moss

About 10 minutes away. James and Janet Moss's small family Cabernet winery in south Napa's Crusher District, with salon-style tastings in a fountain courtyard and a look at the cellar. The seated tasting of five wines is $50, 60 to 75 minutes. Friday to Sunday by appointment, with seatings at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

12:30 · Lunch at Boon Fly Café

About 15 minutes away. An urban winery and nano-brewery in the city of Napa, with seated tastings in a greenhouse inside its culinary garden. The seated Wine Tasting of four small-lot wines is $60 to $125; we allow about an hour. Open Thursday to Monday, noon to 6 p.m.; reservations recommended.

3:10 · Hill Family Estate

About 15 minutes away. A family-farmed winery pouring its own grapes in downtown Yountville. The seated Classic Wine Tasting is $40, waived with a $100 wine purchase; we allow about an hour. Walk-ins and appointments welcome, Thursday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

4:10 · Back to your hotel

Back by about 4:30 p.m., about five and three-quarter hours after pickup.

About $150 to $215 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

J. Moss hosts Friday to Sunday, so plan this day for one of those days. Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
