Craig and Kathryn Hall bought the Sacrashe Vineyard in 1995, their first Napa Valley vineyard, on the rolling hills of eastern Rutherford in the Vaca Mountain foothills. They built their home at the top of the vineyard and the HALL Rutherford winery at its northwestern edge. It is a quieter, more private side of HALL than the St. Helena winery on Highway 29, and every visit here is hosted privately or in a small shared group.
The cave is what guests talk about on the ride home. It runs about 14,000 square feet, lined with repurposed Austrian bricks, and at its center is the Chandelier Room, lit by "Chilean Red" (an anagram of chandelier), a piece by artist Donald Lipski that the Halls commissioned to look like the root system of an ancient vine. Above ground, Sacrashe's volcanic ash soils sit among 100-year-old oaks, manzanita and pines, in the Rutherford AVA.
The flagship visit walks the estate and production winery, stops in the Sacrashe Vineyard, and ends with a seated tasting in the Chandelier Room with cheese and charcuterie. If you would rather skip the walk, the Valley View tasting is poured in the upstairs salon with panoramic vineyard views. Auberge du Soleil is on the same road, so on most days the drive to your first pour is only a couple of minutes.
$125 for the private Valley View Tasting, current-release Cabernets with cheese and charcuterie in the upstairs salon, 60 to 75 minutes (no cave tour). $150 for the shared Appellation Exploration, daily at 12:30 p.m., and $175 for the private Appellation Exploration, each 90 minutes with an estate and Sacrashe Vineyard tour and a seated tasting in the Chandelier Room. $300 for the private Platinum Experience, a cave tour and three Platinum wines paired with bites from La Toque, 90 minutes.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 10:00 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Auberge du Soleil or Rancho Caymus Inn.
Auberge du Soleil shares Auberge Road with HALL Rutherford, so the first leg takes only a few minutes, and Rancho Caymus Inn at the Rutherford crossroads is about 8 minutes away. We time the pickup so you're at the gate for the 10:15 tour. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.
The private Appellation Exploration ($175, 90 minutes): the estate and winery, a walk in the Sacrashe Vineyard, then a seated tasting in the Chandelier Room. The Valley View Tasting ($125, 60 to 75 minutes) skips the cave and leaves a little more room in the day.
About 15 minutes away. A family estate on the southern slopes of Howell Mountain, where guests taste on the hillside looking out over Lake Hennessey and the 40-acre estate vineyard. A privately hosted, seated tasting of current releases is $100 (or a three-bottle purchase per person); plan about 75 minutes. Advance reservations only; 21 and over.
About 15 minutes away. Lunch at The Charter Oak on Main Street in St. Helena, Christopher and Martina Kostow's family-style restaurant, open daily from 11:30 a.m. (11 a.m. on weekends). Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 13 minutes away. An Oakville Cabernet estate whose winery dates to 1881 and sits in the middle of the vineyard among old oaks. The PlumpJack Experience is $80 for 60 minutes. By reservation, daily, with tastings between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.; 21 and over.
Back by about 4:00 p.m., six hours after pickup.
About $305 to $355 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Amizetta books weekend (Friday to Sunday) visits more than six weeks ahead, so a weekday is easiest; if a weekend date is full, we swap in another hillside estate.
