About the Winery

In 1980 the Brown family's parents bought an abandoned ranch in the eastern hills of Napa Valley, rehabilitated the old homestead and planted grapes, which they sold to local winemakers for a decade. In 1995 the next generation decided to make their own wine, and the Brown Estate label was established in 1996 with the first Brown Zin. Siblings Deneen, David and Coral Brown lead the winery today.

The family's estate sits in the Chiles Valley District, and Zinfandel is the house signature, alongside Petite Sirah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Brown Estate debuted its first three vintages at the ZAP Zinfandel tasting in San Francisco in January 2000, and bottled its 25th vintage in 2021. In 2018 it added a second label, House of Brown.

To make visiting easier, Brown opened its Brown Downtown tasting room in April 2017 on Coombs Street in downtown Napa. Tastings are seated, at set times Thursday through Monday, with a choice of flights or a paired tasting with small bites. Visits to the estate itself are limited and by request only.

Tasting Fees

$50 for the Flight Tasting, a choice of three flights of four wines each, with an optional cheese board. $75 for the Paired Tasting, five wines with individually plated small bites.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
