Napa · Napa Valley
A Napa Cabernet brand born in the late 1980s on the mountain it is named for. Atlas Peak does not receive visitors; here is what to know, and a day at sought-after estates nearby that do host.

Atlas Peak began in the late 1980s (the brand gives 1987), before the Atlas Peak AVA was approved in 1992. It was a venture high in the Vaca Mountains, backed by Whitbread and Bollinger with a small stake for Piero Antinori's family, and it bet on Sangiovese. The results disappointed, the brand ended up in Allied Domecq's portfolio, and the Antinoris took over the estate and rebuilt it as Antica, today Antinori Napa Valley.
The Atlas Peak name lives on as a separate brand, now part of Quintessential's California portfolio, stewarded by the Kreps family. Winemaker Derek Irwin, a UC Davis graduate who trained in Italy under Alberto Antonini and worked at Cosentino, Bouchaine and Viansa, focuses on "bold structure and site precision." Recent releases include a 2019 Atlas Peak AVA Cabernet, and the 2023 Cabernet draws on Rutherford, Pope Valley and Yountville fruit.
Atlas Peak has no winery or tasting room to visit; its website lists only a phone number and a contact form, which also handles the mailing list. The original estate on Soda Canyon Road is now Antinori Napa Valley, and it does host, so it anchors the day below, along with two more sought-after estates in the hills east of Napa.
Atlas Peak does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 9:30 a.m. from a nearby hotel such as Silverado Resort or Andaz Napa.
Since Atlas Peak does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after estates nearby that do, starting at the brand's original home. We pick up at 9:30 for Antinori's 10 a.m. seating, about 20 minutes up Soda Canyon Road from Silverado Resort, a golf and spa resort at the foot of Atlas Peak, and about 25 minutes from Andaz Napa, a boutique Hyatt hotel downtown. The day runs about seven hours, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 20 to 25 minutes away. The Antinori family's mountain estate high on Atlas Peak, on the land where Atlas Peak began. The Estate Experience is $125, a 90-minute private seated tasting of four wines with light bites and a visit to the historic caves. By reservation request, Tuesday through Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
About 20 minutes away. A winery built entirely inside 45,000 square feet of cave in the Vaca Mountains, with a stream and waterfall running through it. The Vintage Tour and Tasting is $150; we allow about 90 minutes. Daily by appointment, with a limited number of small tours.
About 15 minutes away. Lunch at Grace's Table on Second Street in downtown Napa, a sit-down local favorite open daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 12 minutes away. Two brothers' winery at the foot of the Vaca Mountains, pouring wines from their volcanic Stagecoach Vineyard. The Estate Tasting is $75, five wines with cheese and charcuterie, daily at 10 a.m., 12:30 or 3 p.m.; we plan about 75 minutes. Dogs are welcome with advance notice.
Back by about 4:30 p.m., about seven hours after pickup.
About $350 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
Antinori Napa Valley hosts Tuesday through Saturday, so this day works on those days. It runs about seven hours, back by about 4:30 p.m.; lunch is timed to finish before Krupp Brothers' 3 p.m. Estate Tasting.
