In 1994 Lauren Ackerman, a former tech entrepreneur and consultant, and her then-husband bought a 16-acre vineyard in Coombsville, and they began making wine in 1995. The first commercial release came in 2007: a 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon. Lauren still owns and manages the winery today. Master of Wine Peter Marks later said of that first wine, "consider yourself fortunate if you still have this in your cellar."
The Stonehaven Vineyard sits in the cool Coombsville AVA, in a horseshoe of hills below Mount George. It was certified organic by CCOF in 2009, the first vineyard in Coombsville to earn the label, and it is farmed with cover crops and hawk boxes instead of chemical pesticides. The focus is Cabernet Sauvignon.
Tastings are not at the vineyard but at the Ackerman Heritage House, a tasting salon just steps from downtown Napa. The Ackerman Tasting is a flight of current releases, and the Collectors Tasting is a private seated tasting of cellar and members-only wines with a cheese pairing. Both are by reservation, Tuesday through Friday.
$65 for the Ackerman Tasting of current releases (not waived for non-members). $150 for the Ackerman Collectors Tasting, a private seated tasting with cheese, applied to wine purchases.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
