About the Winery

In 2007 brothers Brian and John Cunat bought a 50-acre property in Napa Valley's Oak Knoll District and planted it to Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Syrah, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. Brian's wife Miki is closely involved, and the family still takes part in the winery every day.

In 2014 the family finished its own winery on the property, with room to make 150,000 gallons. The Japanese Series sets Materra apart: small-lot wines that winemaker Chelsea Barrett and Miki Cunat craft to pair with Japanese cuisine, poured in their own tasting flight.

The tasting room is bright and open, and the patio looks across the vineyards on Big Ranch Road. The Materra Experience pours five classic wines indoors or outside, and the Tour and Tasting walks through the working winery before a seated tasting. Tastings are booked ahead, with the last one at 4 p.m.

Tasting Fees

$45 for the Materra Experience (five classic wines) and $45 for the Japanese Tasting Flight. $60 for the Tour and Tasting, at least 90 minutes.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
