About the Property

The Valley Ford Hotel was built in 1864 by the Rein family to lodge travelers on the road to the coast, and stagecoaches, the North Pacific Coast Railroad and Highway 1 have all passed its door since. It sits in the small ranching village of Valley Ford, about an hour north of the Golden Gate Bridge and a few miles inland from Bodega Bay.

Rooms have Egyptian cotton sheets, robes and oversized towels, and the front porch is lined with Adirondack chairs. Rocker's Roadhouse downstairs serves farm-to-table soul food at lunch and dinner, with brunch on Sunday, and the multi-tiered back patio hosts private events.

It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Black Kite Cellars in Freestone and Sonoma Coast Vineyards on Bodega Bay are both within about 15 minutes, and the Pinot Noir wineries around Sebastopol are about 20 minutes away. We are based in Calistoga, in neighboring Napa Valley.

Getting Here From the Airport

Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 21 miles, 45 minutes. The closest airport to Valley Ford Hotel, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.

Oakland (OAK): about 71 miles, 1 hour 45 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO.

San Francisco International (SFO): about 71 miles, 1 hour 50 minutes, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.
