About the Winery

Sonoma Coast Vineyards was founded in 2001 to make wine from the far edge of the Sonoma Coast, from vineyards about five miles from the Pacific. It is part of Foley Family Wines, and its tasting room sits on Highway 1 at the edge of Bodega Bay, inside the western reach of the Petaluma Gap, the windy opening in the coastal hills that gives the appellation its name.

The winery buys from a small group of growers, all certified sustainable, on thin, rocky soils with steady ocean influence: Ramal and Champlin in the southern Sonoma Coast, and Shiloh and Winner's Circle further inland in the Russian River Valley. Winemaker Darrell Holbrook, mentored by David Ramey, has made wine only in Sonoma for more than 30 years, and the focus is Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

The draw is the setting: a guided flight of four current releases at outdoor tables looking out over the bay, with a cheese and charcuterie board to add. A grassy knoll beside the tasting room overlooks the water, a natural end to a day inland.

Tasting Fees

$35 for the Taste of the Coast, a guided flight of four current releases, about 60 minutes. A cheese and charcuterie board can be added for $35. One tasting fee is waived with every $150 purchase.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

About 5 minutes away. A casual Sebastopol spot, open since 2016, with seasonal food from local farmers and fishermen, served mostly outdoors. Open daily from 11 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Freeman's Estate Cave Tasting runs Friday to Sunday, and its Fall Escape cave tasting Monday to Thursday, so the day works any day of the week.

About $110 to $175 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
