About the Property
The Stavrand is a 21-room hotel on six acres in the redwoods outside Guerneville, formerly Applewood Inn, fully renovated and reopened in 2021. Its centerpiece is Belden House, a country home designed by John Carl Warnecke and a Sonoma County landmark, with its original river-stone fireplaces. The Michelin Guide awards it two Michelin Keys, and it is AAA Four Diamond.
A hot plated breakfast is included daily, and local wines are poured at an evening aperitif from 5 to 6 p.m. A four-course prix fixe dinner is served Thursday to Saturday for hotel guests only. There is a solar-heated pool and hot tub, in-room massage, and kayak gear and bicycles, and dogs are welcome in select rooms.
It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Korbel Champagne Cellars, Gary Farrell Vineyards & Winery and Hartford Family Winery are all within about 20 minutes. We are based in Calistoga, in neighboring Napa Valley.
Getting Here From the Airport
Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 16 miles, 35 minutes. The closest airport to The Stavrand, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.
Oakland (OAK): about 82 miles, 1 hour 50 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO.
San Francisco International (SFO): about 82 miles, 2 hours, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.
Sacramento (SMF): about 111 miles, around 2 hours. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.

About 15 minutes away. Estate sparkling wine from one of Sonoma County's coolest corners, poured outdoors with a view. The Tasting with a View is $35. By appointment; book about two weeks ahead for weekends.

Adds about an hour. Estate Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Quail Hill Vineyard, on the western edge of the Laguna de Santa Rosa. The seated Wine Flight is $60; allow 90 minutes. By reservation, at least 24 hours ahead.
