About the Property

The Gables Wine Country Inn is a Gothic Victorian from about 1877, with 12-foot ceilings, on Petaluma Hill Road southeast of Santa Rosa. Innkeepers Pam and Larry Willis own it, and guests stay in rooms in the main house or in The Cottage and The Milk House.

A gourmet breakfast with local ingredients is included, and rooms have private bathrooms with clawfoot tubs. The grounds have a vineyard, lavender gardens and a fire pit in the redwoods, and guests get complimentary wine tasting and a Wine Passport for winery access. Children stay only in the cottage, and pets are not allowed.

It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Bob Cabral Wines, Kendall-Jackson Wine Estate & Gardens and Paradise Ridge Winery are all within about 20 minutes. We are based in Calistoga, in neighboring Napa Valley.

Getting Here From the Airport

Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 12 miles, 20 minutes. The closest airport to The Gables, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.

Oakland (OAK): about 64 miles, 1 hour 30 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO.

San Francisco International (SFO): about 64 miles, 1 hour 35 minutes, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.

Sacramento (SMF): about 93 miles, around 2 hours. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.

12:00 · Lunch at Glen Ellen Village Market

About 15 minutes away. The village grocery on Arnold Drive in Glen Ellen, with sandwiches made to order for lunch on the go. Open daily from 6 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

About 5 minutes away. Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from the Laurel Glen clone on Sonoma Mountain, poured in Glen Ellen. The Classic Tasting is $45. Walk-ins welcome; a text ahead is encouraged.

About 15 minutes away. Cinq Cépages and vineyard-designated Chardonnay at a 1920s summer chateau in Kenwood. The Classic Bar Tasting is $30 and the seated Belle Terre Experience $50. Reservations encouraged; walk-ins as available.

About 30 minutes away. Back by 4:00 p.m., six hours after pickup.

Optional: Paradise Ridge Winery

Adds about an hour. Estate Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir in the hills above Santa Rosa, with the Marijke's Grove sculpture garden. The Estate Tasting is $35. Reservations recommended.
