About the Property

Gaige House + Ryokan is a 23-room Japanese-inspired inn along Calabazas Creek in Glen Ellen, with zen rock gardens. The main house was built in the late 1800s by Albert Ebenezer Gaige, a butcher, who lived upstairs above his shop. It is one of the Four Sisters Inns.

There is an outdoor pool and hot tub, on-site spa treatments and a space for meditation and yoga, and the Zen suites have deep granite soaking tubs. A full breakfast for two, an evening wine hour and a cordial bar are included. A few rooms welcome dogs, booked by phone only.

It is also an easy place to start a wine tour. Laurel Glen Vineyard, Gloria Ferrer and Benziger Family Winery are all within about 5 minutes. We are based in Calistoga, in neighboring Napa Valley.

Getting Here From the Airport

Sonoma County Airport (STS): about 23 miles, 40 minutes. The closest airport to Gaige House, and the easiest arrival: a small airport in Santa Rosa with no Bay Area traffic on the drive. Direct flights come in from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Portland, Phoenix, Denver, Dallas and more.

Oakland (OAK): about 63 miles, 1 hour 30 minutes. Often a quieter airport than SFO.

San Francisco International (SFO): about 63 miles, 1 hour 35 minutes, and longer at busy times. The most flights, with a drive across the Bay Area.

Sacramento (SMF): about 80 miles, around 2 hours. Skips Bay Area traffic entirely, though it is the longest drive of the four.

About 15 minutes away. The village grocery on Arnold Drive in Glen Ellen, with sandwiches made to order for lunch on the go. Open daily from 6 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

Adds about an hour. Cinq Cépages and vineyard-designated Chardonnay at a 1920s summer chateau in Kenwood. The Classic Bar Tasting is $30 and the seated Belle Terre Experience $50. Reservations encouraged; walk-ins as available.
