Henry and Diane Mayo and their son, Jeffrey, founded Mayo Family Winery in Sonoma Valley in the early 1990s, and the family still owns it. They began with the Laurel Hill Vineyard on Sonoma Mountain, first planted to Chardonnay in 1990 and to Pinot Noir in 2002.
Mayo makes small batches of single-vineyard wines, about 5,000 cases a year or less, with Chardonnay, old-vine Zinfandel and Sonoma Valley Pinot Noir at the center. Besides the 10-acre Laurel Hill estate, the family farms the Ricci Vineyard on Limerick Lane in the Russian River Valley, planted to Zinfandel in 1951, and Hollister Hill on Sonoma Mountain, planted in 2013.
Mayo has two tasting rooms. The Reserve Room on the Sonoma Highway in Kenwood, with views of the vineyards and the Mayacamas Mountains, pairs seven Reserve wines, from a Reserve Brut to a Zinfandel Port, with seven small seasonal courses from Culinary Director Chef Oscar Bendeck. The tasting room on Arnold Drive in Glen Ellen is the casual one, open daily for walk-ins, with an outdoor picnic area.
$90 for the Reserve Room Wine & Food Pairing, seven small seasonal courses each paired with a Reserve wine, for up to 6 guests. $50 for the food-only menu.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
