About the Winery

William Henry Wineworks was started by a group of friends who wanted to make high-quality, handcrafted, small-production wine in Sebastopol. The idea was a cooperative winemaking facility where a few independent Sonoma County winemakers could focus on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and other varieties, with a tasting room to share them. Mark Ray is the winemaker, and Melissa Ray keeps the calendar.

The studio buys from local family growers in the Russian River Valley and Sonoma County, among them John Balletto's Occidental Road vineyard for Chardonnay and the La Vista, Collins and Emmitt-Scorsone vineyards for Pinot Noir, old-vine Zinfandel and Grenache. Three labels come out of the building: the house WineWorks wines, Perception, with its Charlatan Pinot Noir and library vintages back to 2012, and Melissa Kelly's Sonoma Coast Chardonnay.

The Winemakers Studio is a working winery as much as a tasting room, and the pleasure is seeing what is happening in the cellar while you taste. For a deeper visit, the winemaker can join your party to talk through how the wines are made, which is the part guests remember.
