About the Winery

Shippey Vineyards is a grape-farming family whose vineyards sit in the western hills above Dry Creek Valley. The family bought the property in 1968, when an old-vine field blend was still being tended there, and has grown grapes commercially since the 1980s. Rather than replant to other varieties, they planted Zinfandel and Petite Sirah, the grapes the valley's early hillside farmers chose.

The family says it spends more time in the vineyard than in the winery, believing that the grapes make the wine. The wines include the single-vineyard Rocking Z Zinfandel and Flaming J Petite Sirah, a Midnight O red wine, a Black Rose rosé and Libro. Production is under 1,000 cases a year, and the wines are not sold in supermarkets.

Shippey has no tasting room of its own. Its website lists direct sales from Santa Rosa and a shared tasting room at Hudson Street Wineries in Healdsburg, but we could not confirm that the shared room still pours Shippey, so we treat it as not open to visitors. The day below goes to three family wineries at the quiet north end of West Dry Creek Road, in the same western hills.

Tasting Fees

Shippey Vineyards does not offer tastings of its own.

On the day below, Preston's private tasting is $35, Bella's seated tasting is $35, and Lambert Bridge's Winemaker's Selection Experience is $75.

Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

2:15 · Lambert Bridge Winery

About 5 minutes away. Small-production Bordeaux varieties from a 1975 estate on West Dry Creek Road. The Winemaker's Selection Experience is $75, a mix of red and white wines with light nibbles; we plan about 75 minutes. Open daily.

3:30 · Back to your hotel

Back in Healdsburg by about 3:45 p.m., under six hours after pickup.

All three wineries host daily; Preston is by appointment, which we book. If Shippey confirms a place to taste when you travel, we can add it.

About $145 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.
