About the Winery

Scott and Lynn Adams founded Bella by rehabilitating a run-down winery property on West Dry Creek Road and cutting caves into the hillside below the vineyard. The estate is Lily Hill, where the Italian immigrant Adamo Micheli and his young son, Angelo, planted the first vines in 1915; Angelo looked after them for decades with his own children, and today the Adamses' four children run on the same hills. Bella is still a small, family-run winery.

Bella is a Zinfandel house. More than 70 percent of its grapes come from its own vineyards, led by the century-old vines of Lily Hill, and the rest from a few long-trusted growers: Maple Vineyards, now farmed by David Rafanelli; Jack Florence Sr.'s vineyard, planted from budwood traced to vines of the 1870s; three blocks in the steep, windy Rockpile hills above Lake Sonoma; and DuPratt Vineyard, planted at 1,500 feet on the Mendocino Ridge in 1919, so remote among the redwoods that its vines still grow on their own roots.

The caves are what guests remember. The tasting room sits in the heart of the cave complex, and the Seated Wine Tasting is poured either underground among the barrels or out on the lawn, looking across the valley to Lily Hill. For more, the 90-minute Bella Tour walks the crush pad and vineyard before small-lot Zinfandels in the caves, and on Fridays to Sundays a vintage Pinzgauer truck climbs the red-clay roads to the top of Lily Hill for a tasting among the vines. West Dry Creek Road is narrow and closed to buses, which keeps the place quiet and suits a private car.

Tasting Fees

$35 for the Seated Wine Tasting in the caves or on the lawn, up to 8 guests. $95 for the Bella Tour of the crush pad, vineyard and caves, 90 minutes, daily. $115 for Drive Through the Clouds by vintage Pinzgauer to the top of Lily Hill, about 2 hours, Friday to Sunday, or for Hike the Hill, daily at 10:30 a.m. with a week's notice. $150 for the Barrel Select Tour + Tasting with the production team, about 2 hours, Saturday and Sunday.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A Suggested Six-Hour Day

Pickup at 10:30 a.m. from a hotel such as Hotel Trio in Healdsburg or Geyserville Inn.

10:30 · Pickup at Hotel Trio or Geyserville Inn

Geyserville Inn, on Geyserville Avenue at the north end of the village, is about 20 minutes from Bella Vineyards, and Hotel Trio, on Dry Creek Road on the north side of Healdsburg, about 30. Bella opens at 11 a.m., so we time the pickup to arrive for the first tasting. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.

11:00 · Bella Vineyards and Wine Caves

The Seated Wine Tasting underground in the caves, or on the lawn over the valley ($35). We plan about an hour.

12:20 · Lunch at Catelli's

About 20 minutes away. Santi and Virginia Catelli opened this Geyserville restaurant in 1936, and their granddaughter, chef Domenica Catelli, carries on the family's handmade Italian cooking. Open Wednesday to Sunday from noon. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.

1:40 · A. Rafanelli

About 20 minutes away. One of Dry Creek Valley's most sought-after Zinfandel houses: the Rafanelli family has grown grapes and made wine here since the early 1900s, now in its fourth generation, and sells mostly to its A. List, which keeps a waiting list. A casual, personal tasting is $25, for parties of 6 or fewer. By appointment only; days and hours change with the seasons.

3:00 · Jordan Winery

About 20 minutes away. Tom and Sally Jordan's French-inspired chateau in Alexander Valley, founded in 1972 and named Best Vineyard in North America for 2025 by World's Best Vineyards. Jordan makes only two wines, Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Russian River Valley Chardonnay, and every visit pairs them with food from the estate kitchen. A Taste of Jordan is $60, 45 minutes, daily at 3 p.m. By appointment only.

3:45 · Back to your hotel

Back in Healdsburg by 4:00 p.m., within six hours of pickup.

Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Catelli's opens Wednesday to Sunday and A. Rafanelli sets its appointment days by season, so this day works Wednesday to Sunday once Rafanelli confirms. For the 90-minute Bella Tour instead of the seated tasting, we drop one of the later stops.

About $120 per person in tasting fees for the three wineries, paid directly to each winery.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
