About the Winery

SEPPI is the sparkling wine label of Kelsey Phelps, granddaughter of Joseph Phelps, who founded Joseph Phelps Vineyards in St. Helena in 1973. "Seppi" was the grandchildren's nickname for him, after he decided he wanted to be called Giuseppe instead of grandpa. Kelsey practiced law in Silicon Valley before joining the wine industry, launched SEPPI in 2017 and lives in Healdsburg.

Every SEPPI wine is made by the méthode traditionnelle: Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are vinified in small lots, then fermented a second time in the bottle and aged on the lees for at least 18 months. The Press Democrat reports fruit from 14 vineyards across Sonoma, Napa and Mendocino counties and one in the Sta. Rita Hills, with the wines produced at Brick & Mortar Wines in Healdsburg by winemaker Matt Iaconis; the winery's own site names Schramsberg alum Keith Hock on the winemaking team. Production runs 500 to 1,000 cases a year, including a Blanc de Blancs, a Blanc de Noir and a Brut Rosé.

There is no tasting room, and SEPPI does not receive visitors. The wines are sold at drinkseppi.com and through the Tête de Cuvée Club, and the Press Democrat lists Bottle Barn, Oliver's Market and several Healdsburg spots that pour it by the glass. The day below stays around Healdsburg, with two sparkling houses and a Pinot Noir estate on Westside Road.

Tasting Fees

SEPPI does not offer tastings. On the day below, Gary Farrell's Discovery Tasting is $55, a seated sparkling flight at Breathless is $32 to $52, and the Signature Tasting at J Vineyards is $35.

Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Breathless and J Vineyards are closed Tuesday and Wednesday, so plan this day for Thursday to Monday. For a slower pace, swap the J Vineyards stop for a longer lunch on the Plaza.
