About the Winery

Sean and Nicole Minor, husband and wife, founded the company in 2005 under the name Four Bears Winery, after their four children. It is still family-owned and run from Sonoma. Sean, who grew up in Kansas, made wine at wineries up and down the West Coast before starting his own label, and Nicole leads marketing.

Sean Minor works with sustainable growers in California's leading appellations rather than farming its own estate. The range runs from the everyday California Series to the Signature Series and the small, allocated Invited Series, which includes organically and regeneratively farmed wines. Since 2023 their daughter, Elle Minor, a Cal Poly graduate, has been production manager and winemaker.

The wines are sold in restaurants and shops in all 50 states and 10 countries, online, and through a four-tier wine club whose members save 15 percent. The company has no tasting room open to the public and does not offer tours. For a day in the same corner of Carneros, we take guests to small estates nearby that do open their doors.

11:00 · Dunstan Wines

About 15 minutes away. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah from the Durell Vineyard, planted in 1982 where Sonoma Valley, the Sonoma Coast and Carneros meet, and a source for wineries such as Kistler and Patz & Hall. The Ranch House Experience, a tasting of current releases with a tour of the vineyard, is $125, about 90 minutes, for 2 to 6 guests. Seatings at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.; prepaid reservations.

12:45 · Lunch at the girl & the fig

About 15 minutes away. French country cooking on the Sonoma Plaza, with a Rhône-focused wine list, cheese and charcuterie, and a garden patio. 2:15 · Jambe de Bois

About 20 minutes away. Winemaker Danielle Langlois's small-lot label, named for her peg-legged pirate ancestor, with Moon Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon and Rhône-style wines from organically farmed vineyards; her husband, Dan, is the winegrower. Private tastings with the winemaker are by email request, and we arrange them on your behalf; the fee is confirmed when we book.

3:25 · Cassidy Ranch

About 10 minutes away. Tucker and Elizabeth Stein's certified organic farm and 10-acre Carneros vineyard, founded in 2021, where guests can pick flowers, berries and produce among more than 100 varieties. Wine tastings are by request, and we arrange them on your behalf; the fee is confirmed when we book.

4:25 · Back to your hotel

Back in Sonoma by 4:40 p.m., within six hours of pickup.

Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Dunstan seats at set times, and Jambe de Bois and Cassidy Ranch host by request, so we confirm all three appointments before the day.

About $125 per person in tasting fees for Dunstan, paid directly to the winery; the fees at Jambe de Bois and Cassidy Ranch are to be verified upon reservation.

Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
