Ellie Phipps Price and Chris Towt launched Dunstan Wines in 2008 to show off the fruit of the Durell Vineyard, which Ellie bought in 1998. The name comes from an old horseshoe found while planting the Ranch House Block in 2005, and from Saint Dunstan, patron saint of blacksmiths; Dunstan was also the name of Ellie's first rescued mustang, and she is board president of the American Wild Horse Campaign. Kenneth Juhasz, who founded Auteur, makes the wines.
Ed Durell bought the property in 1977 and planted it in 1982, where the Sonoma Valley, Sonoma Coast and Carneros appellations meet. Its fruit is among the most sought after in Sonoma County, sold to wineries such as Auteur, Tor, Patz & Hall and Kistler. Dunstan makes small lots of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah from Durell, plus Pinot Noir from Star Mooring Farm in Oregon's Willamette Valley.
The visit is the Ranch House Experience at the vineyard on Felder Road: a tasting of current releases and a tour, about 90 minutes, for 6 guests or fewer. It is a chance to stand in a vineyard whose name shows up on labels across the county, with the people who farm it.
$125 for the Ranch House Experience, a tasting of current releases and a tour, about 90 minutes, for 2 to 6 guests.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
