A winemaker-hosted private tasting of small-lot Moon Mountain Cabernet and Rhône-style wines, named for a peg-legged pirate, and a suggested six-hour day around it.
Book a Six-Hour Wine Tour
Jambe de Bois, French for "wooden leg," is named for winemaker Danielle Langlois's ancestor, a peg-legged French pirate whose adventures in the French West Indies filled her childhood stories. Danielle studied environmental science at the University of Denver, came to Sonoma as a harvest intern at Kamen Estate Wines, and started this label as her own creative outlet. Her husband, Dan, a geologist by training, is the winegrower.
Dan learned organic and biodynamic farming over six years with the crews of organic viticulturist Phil Coturri at Kamen Estate, and he has helped farm most of the vineyards in the lineup. The wines are made in lots of 50 to a couple of hundred cases: Moon Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon from the Moonridge vineyard at about 2,200 feet, Grenache and Mourvèdre from Rossi Ranch, Syrah and Gamay Noir from Foxy and the Hounds Vineyard, a Grenache rosé from Steel Plow below Sugarloaf Ridge, and Mourvèdre from very old vines at Castanho Farms in Contra Costa County.
There is no tasting room. Danielle hosts private tastings by request, which means a personal conversation with the person who made every wine in the glass. We send the request by email and confirm the time and place when we book.
Tasting fees to be verified upon reservation.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

A private tasting with winemaker Danielle Langlois, about an hour.
About 20 minutes away. Owned since 1979 by the Swiss Schmidheiny family, who planted the Tai Estate Vineyard in Los Carneros and built a modern winery among its cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in 2009. The seated Estate Tasting of four wines is $60, for up to 6 guests, and the Winemaker's Tasting with cheeses is $85. Advance reservations required, 21 and over; open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday to Monday.
About 5 minutes away. A roadhouse in a red barn on the Carneros Highway, named for a Carneros pioneer and known for its donuts and fried chicken. Open daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; reservations are for dinner only, so lunch is walk-in. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 20 minutes away. A small-production label from Johannes, who grew up on a family winery in Germany's Mosel Valley, and Jenny, a Sonoma local. The Toje Table is a private, seated visit in the wine caves just south of Sonoma, hosted by the owners, with the current releases poured in full and a seasonal board, usually 90 to 120 minutes for 2 to 6 guests. By reservation; the fee is confirmed when we book.
Back in Sonoma by 3:55 p.m., within six hours of pickup.
Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Jambe de Bois and Toje are both private, small-winery visits, so we confirm those two appointments first and build the day around them.
About $60 per person in tasting fees for Cuvaison, paid directly to the winery; the fees at Jambe de Bois and Toje are to be verified upon reservation.
Every tour is custom. This day is a starting point: your chauffeur will shape it around what matters to you, and we plan multi-day tours for guests who want to see more of wine country.
