Pine Mountain Vineyards sits on the upper western flank of Pine Mountain, about 7 miles from Cloverdale, at the center of the Pine Mountain-Cloverdale Peak AVA. John Copeland, who spent years scouting vineyard land for Kendall-Jackson, developed the vineyard in 1998. Its 36 planted acres, mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with some Cabernet Franc, lie between 2,200 and 2,800 feet on a ranch of about 600 acres of oak, madrone, fir forest and native grassland. The proprietor is Hien Nguyen.
The vineyard grows grapes for artisan winemakers and premium wineries, and the family also makes its own wines. Ampere, its late-harvest, high-elevation label, is made by Thomas Rivers Brown; Antonio Galloni of Vinous called the 2010 Cabernet "an impressive debut" at 92 points and gave the 2011 93 points. The Pine Mountain label adds Cabernet Sauvignon, an Estate Reserve Cabernet, Cabernet Franc, a Classic Red Blend, Sauvignon Blanc and rose, from $28 to $62.
There is no tasting room or visit program, so Pine Mountain Vineyards does not receive visitors; the wines are sold online through the Ampere website and its wine club. The day below stays in northern Sonoma County, from Cloverdale to Geyserville.
Pine Mountain Vineyards does not offer tastings.
The day below visits Peay ($50), Francis Ford Coppola ($50) and Trentadue ($25), about $125 per person in tasting fees.
Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
