About the Winery

Brothers Nick and Andy Peay searched for land from the Santa Ynez Valley to the Mendocino Ridge and eastern Washington, before settling on a fog-covered hilltop above a river gorge in the far northwest corner of Sonoma County, near Annapolis. Nick farms the vineyard and Andy runs the business. Nick's wife, Vanessa Wong, joined as winemaker in the spring of 2001, before the first vintage; she had been winemaker at Peter Michael Winery and had worked at Château Lafite-Rothschild and Domaine Jean Gros in Burgundy.

The estate vineyard, four miles from the Pacific in the West Sonoma Coast appellation, covers about 53 acres, most of it Pinot Noir, with Syrah, Chardonnay, Viognier, Roussanne and Marsanne. Peay also makes Pinot Noir from the Savoy Vineyard in Anderson Valley. Each wine is made in small quantities, some under 100 cases, and sold through the mailing list and online.

The grapes grow on the coast, but the wines are made in Cloverdale, at the north end of Alexander Valley, about 15 minutes north of Healdsburg, and that is where most guests visit. A tasting starts with a tour of the winery and continues in the barrel room with an educational tasting of five wines. It is small and personal, never more than 6 guests, and guests who want to see the coast itself can book the Estate Vineyard Tasting on a porch overlooking the vineyard, with local cheeses and salumi.

Tasting Fees

$50 for the Current Release Tasting: a tour of the Cloverdale winery and five current wines in the barrel room. $75 for the Library Select Tasting, with current releases and select library wines. $100 for the Estate Vineyard Tasting near Sea Ranch, a vineyard tour and a porch tasting with local cheeses and salumi, where availability varies.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
