About the Winery

Petrichor Vineyards belongs to growers and producers Jim and Margaret Foley. The name, a word for the scent of rain on dry earth, came to them through their friend, the artist Stephanie Gardner. Their team is a strong one: viticulturist Steve Matthiasson, vineyard manager Lee Martinelli Jr., founding winemaker Duncan Arnot Meyers (2009 to 2013), and now winemakers Ryan and Megan Glaab of RYME.

The vineyard is two and a half acres at 1,100 feet on Redwood Hill, a western ridge of the Mayacamas Mountains above the Russian River Valley, in the Fountaingrove District. Its 8,000 vines of Grenache (Alban clone) and Syrah (877 and 470 clones) grow in volcanic soil and are farmed organically, with solar power and barn owls for pest control. Current wines include a 2018 Grenache ($58), a Grenache rosé, Carma, a carbonic Grenache, and Les Trois, a Syrah and Grenache blend. There is also estate olive oil.

There is no tasting room; the website lists only a mailing address in Larkfield, marked as not a tasting room location. The wines are sold online, through the wine club, and at restaurants and shops such as Farmhouse Inn and Acme Fine Wines. The day below starts on the Fountaingrove ridge and ends at Ryme Cellars, where Petrichor's winemakers pour their own wines.

Tasting Fees

Petrichor does not have a tasting room. On the day below, fees run $75 at Bob Cabral, $35 at Paradise Ridge and $35 at Ryme Cellars, paid to each winery.

Tasting fees as of October 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
