About the Winery

Moon Hollow is a family-owned estate of more than 800 acres across Sonoma and Napa counties, founded by Michael and Xochi Birch, who co-founded Bebo and later The Battery, a private members club in San Francisco. The estate began as a retreat for the family.

At its heart is an 18-acre, CCOF-certified organic vineyard at about 1,200 feet in the Moon Mountain District, on volcanic soils above the fog line. Phil Coturri has tended the vines for decades, and Mark Herold, the founder of Merus, has been winemaker since 2017. The vineyard grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier, and the estate makes about 2,000 cases a year.

The tasting room is on the west side of the Sonoma Plaza, about five miles below the vineyard, with a lounge and a garden patio behind it. The wine program is shaped by Wine Director Christophe Tassan, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France in sommellerie, and flights often set current releases beside older vintages.

Tasting Fees

$45 for the Estate Tasting of current releases and $65 for the Library Tasting from the cellar collection, each for 1 to 8 guests. $95 for the Comparative Experience, an eight-wine estate overview, or the Cabernet Vertical Flight, each for 2 to 6 guests.

Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
