John Sweazey, a Stanford business graduate who worked in computer sales and commercial real estate, founded Anaba in 2006 on the Sonoma side of Carneros. Travels through Burgundy and the southern Rhône Valley in the 1970s shaped the winery he built decades later, with its focus on Rhône varieties alongside Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The name comes from anabatic winds, the cooling breezes that flow up the vineyard slopes; glider pilots rely on them for flight, and Anaba relies on them to cool the grapes. In 2009 Anaba began generating wind power, which with solar panels gives it 100% renewable electricity. Winemaker Katy Wilson works with the estate J McK Vineyard and growers from Sonoma County to the Santa Lucia Highlands, including Dutton Ranch in the Green Valley.
Tastings are in the Vintners House, a contemporary tasting room that opened in 2019. The Signature Tasting pours four or five wines, Pinnacle of Pinot focuses on single-vineyard Pinot Noir, and guests can add a round of pickleball or a game of bocce with wood-fired pizza.
$45 to $65 for the Signature Tasting, the four-wine Elements flight or the five-wine Legacy flight. $65 for the Seasonal Food & Wine Pairing, Pinnacle of Pinot or Pickleball & Wine Tasting. $75 for the Winery Tour & Tasting and $125 for Pizza, Pinot & Bocce, for groups of four or more. $25 for First Flights, Tuesday to Thursday before noon.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.
