Petar Kirilov was born and raised in Bulgaria and earned a master's degree in winemaking from the University of Food Technologies in 2002. He moved to California in 2003 for an internship at Truchard Vineyards in Carneros, joined the wine technology company Vinovation in 2005 and later served as winemaker for Meadowcroft Wines and Foyt Wines. In 2013 he founded Kukeri Wines to make limited-production, single-vineyard wines from his own picks of sites in Napa Valley and Sonoma County.
Kukeri makes Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Sonoma County Pinot Noir in small lots, handling the fruit gently to show the character of each vineyard. The name comes from the Kukeri, a Bulgarian ritual with roots going back thousands of years to the Thracians and the worship of Dionysus, in which dancers in horned, bell-hung costumes and masks drive away darkness and bring blessings of prosperity and renewal.
Kukeri does not publish a tasting room, tours or visitor hours; its licensed premises are in Sebastopol. The wines are sold through the winery's website, where collectors can sign up for news and offers.
Kukeri Wines does not offer tastings.
Tasting fees as of September 2026. Wineries set and collect their own fees, and they change from time to time.

Pickup at 10:35 a.m. from Hotel E in Santa Rosa, or 10:40 from Vinarosa.
Vinarosa, set among 92 acres of vineyards in Santa Rosa, is about 20 minutes from Woodenhead Vintners, and Hotel E, a restored 1906 Beaux-Arts landmark on the square in downtown Santa Rosa, about 25. Since Kukeri Wines does not host visitors, this day takes you to three sought-after wineries nearby that do. Woodenhead opens at 11, so we pick up at 10:35 at Hotel E and 10:40 at Vinarosa. The day below fits a six-hour tour, and extra time can be added by the hour.
About 25 minutes away. Nikolai Stez spent 17 harvests as assistant winemaker to Burt Williams at Williams Selyem before making his own small-lot Pinot Noir and Zinfandel here with his partner, Zina Bower; guests taste inside or out on a deck over the valley, at the top of a winding driveway off River Road. There is a nominal tasting fee, confirmed when we book. Drop-ins welcome Thursday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
About 35 minutes away. Max Reichwage farms Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Gamay Noir and Carignane on an old Sebastopol apple ranch and sells about half his grapes to wineries such as Littorai, Ridge and Carlisle. The seated tasting of five wines, in a new farmhouse tasting room looking over West Sonoma County, is $40, waived with a four-bottle purchase. Open Friday to Sunday; appointments from noon, the last at 4 p.m.
About 10 minutes away. A casual Sebastopol spot, open since 2016, with seasonal food from local farmers and fishermen, served mostly outdoors. Open daily from 11 a.m. Prefer a picnic? We can arrange a catered picnic at a winery that allows one; the cost is quoted when you book.
About 20 minutes away. TJ and Francesca Elam's small-batch winery in Santa Rosa's historic Railroad Square, named for TJ's ancestor Batista Maggetti, a Swiss stonemason who helped build the Greystone winery in St. Helena. The seated Reserve Flight of four Harmon Family Reserve wines is $65 (1 to 1.5 hours), and Nibbles & Wine, three wines with small bites, is $25. Walk-ins welcome; open until 7 p.m., 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Back in Santa Rosa by 4:15 p.m. at Hotel E, or 4:20 at Vinarosa, within six hours of pickup.
Three wineries is the right pace for a day of serious tasting. Woodenhead opens at 11 a.m. Thursday to Monday and Reichwage hosts Friday to Sunday from noon, so this day starts at 10:35, ends around 4:15 and works Friday to Sunday.
About $65 to $105 per person in tasting fees for Reichwage and Stonemason, paid directly to each winery; the Woodenhead tasting fee is to be verified upon reservation.
